Description

A Warm Scottish Welcome

This impressive Victorian country house sits on a hillside, in six acres of peaceful grounds, on the west side of the Kintyre Peninsula in Argyll. It retains a wealth of period features that will appeal to a variety of guests and occasions, including weddings and civil ceremonies, as well as family and corporate getaways and retreats.

Grand Yet Homely Settings

The house offers plenty of space to unwind with two cosy drawing rooms and a large sunlit conservatory opening out onto the terrace. There's also a well-stocked children’s bedroom/playroom, a stunning Victorian dining room, a country kitchen, a separate catering kitchen, and an impressive gunroom bar with a wood burning stove. The bar comes fully-equipped with everything guests would need to run a bar, including keg pipes for those who wish to bring their own barrels. For long stays, there are also laundry and ironing facilities on hand.

The property features a wonderful children’s room and 12 bedrooms, all with en-suites and decorated in their own individual styles. Guests can also be provided with travel cots, camp beds, and a toddler bed.

The Perfect Location for Weddings, Ceremonies, and Corporate Events

Tarbert House can seat up to 50 guests for dinner, with the option of setting up a marquee to seat as many as 150 people. The property also provides a wedding management service to help guests plan their wedding and organize sourcing and connecting with local suppliers. For food and house supplies during your stay, guests can also take advantage of the local shop’s delivery/stocking service prior to arrival.

Breathtaking Nature and Culture

The magnificent West Coast Scottish countryside is famous for outdoor activities, entertainment, history, and its sheer beauty. The location of this wonderful house makes it an ideal base for an endless number of activities, such as golf, sailing, surfing, deer stalking, horse riding, walking, cycling, wildlife/bird watching, fishing, whisky tasting, diving, painting, and photography. Explore local galleries, museums, historic sites, heritage centres, and distilleries. There are several local golf courses, including Machrihanish, Machrihanish Dunes, Dunaverty, Carradale, Tarbert, and Gigha. The first hole at Machrihanish Golf Club has been voted the best first hole in the world.

For sailors, there is an excellent harbour and sheltered anchorage in Tarbert, which also hosts the annual Tarbert Folk Festival, Tarbert Seafood Festival, and several sailing events, including the popular Scottish Series. The surrounding area is well known for its beaches and unspoiled countryside, with the beautiful secluded beach of Dunskeig Bay just a short walk from the house. There is excellent sea and loch fishing nearby, and the house has fishing rights for two rods on nearby Loch Ciaran.

Explore the Islands and Scenic Walks

The Cowal Peninsula and the Islands of Gigha, Islay, Jura, and Arran are easily accessed by Ferry Services, only a short drive from the house. There are superb hill walking options, including the newly opened Kintyre Way, an 86-mile walk that can be enjoyed by walkers of all ages and abilities. A scenic walk through Clachan village and up Dunskeig Hill takes you to the remains of an Iron Age fort and settlement, where guests can enjoy panoramic views towards Gigha, Islay, Jura, West Loch Tarbert, and Ireland.
