Wincanton Estate

Welcome to luxury and grandeur

This historic estate, with roots dating back to the 14th century, represents the definitive in luxury and grandeur. Built upon 1,500 acres of land, the grand estate recently underwent a multimillion pound refurbishment, positioning it as one of the most desirable and sought after country houses for private hire across the UK.

Renovated to a 5-star standard by the family who own and run the house, Wincanton Estate successfully strikes a balance in its offerings: authentic period features coupled with the ultimate in modern amenities.

Immaculate sweeping grounds

The commanding stone gates and sweeping drive lead to the country house’s impressive Elizabethan façade. The grounds are everything you could imagine: flower meadows, secret corners, wide lawns with sweeping vistas and a beautiful church next door. It is easy to picture yourself spending lazy afternoons playing croquet on the terrace lawn, with the pure Georgian façade and its sun-washed stone dominating the background.

From vintage to opulent rooms

Once inside, you are met with an abundance of family rooms, including a large wood-panelled dining room, a billiards room and an opulent Georgian ballroom, along with more cosy sitting rooms and a light-filled morning room. All 21 bedrooms, with their vintage beds and handmade mattresses, are furnished with modern facilities to ensure the ultimate in comfort, effortlessly accommodating more than 40 adults.

The true adventurer at heart will delight in a treasure trove of discovery; from Elizabethan attics, servant shortcuts and hidden garden paths to a secret cellar disco and fully-equipped casino! This eclectic look helps the house retain a very distinctive family feel and establish a warm welcoming atmosphere.

Spoilt for choice of activities

Take a leisurely dip in the heated indoor swimming pool, part of the newly built spa complex featuring a Jacuzzi, sauna and gym. For the more active guests, there is an endless list of activities and facilities which can be enjoyed at Wincanton Estate, including croquet with its dedicated lawn, both hard and grass tennis courts, archery, snooker, volleyball, a 3-hole golf course, a fishing lake and 1,500 acres of hacking. The property also boasts a roof terrace and a private airstrip.

Sumptuous private catering

The dedicated, friendly and highly professional house team is on hand to help with as much or as little as needed. Whether you would like to handle the catering yourself or you prefer the full support of the estate’s staff and catering facilities when hosting a magnificent party, both the space and services can be made available to you.

Why not plan a wine tasting weekend and sample some local cheeses? Guests can bring their own alcohol without incurring any corkage fees and enjoy one of the world’s greatest types of cheddar cheese, produced by the owners of Wincanton Estate.

Discover magnificent surroundings

It is highly recommended that guests make the most of their visit and take in the beautiful sites surrounding the estate, including historic landmarks such as Stonehenge, Glastonbury and Cadbury Castle, the site of King Arthur’s famous round table.

For those who want to experience Glastonbury Festival in style, there is the option to travel from the estate to the festival site via helicopter and for guests who like to combine some shopping with their stay and are fans of the Mulberry brand, a visit to the factory at Shepton Mallet, where they manufacture the iconic Mulberry handbags, is a must.

A stay at Wincanton Estate also allows guests to experience what is on offer further afield in Cheddar Gorge, Bath, Bradford on Avon and Frome, with activities ranging from canal walks and spas to shopping and restaurants.

An unforgettable experience

This sprawling, luxurious property with its friendly atmosphere, unmatched facilities and charming surroundings is ideal for weddings, family celebrations and corporate events. At Wincanton Estate, you are guaranteed an unforgettable five-star experience that would rival any property across the UK.
