The Hall, built in 1760 by Sir Matthew Lamb to the design of renowned architect, James Paine, has had a rich and varied history; Welwyn Country House has welcomed royalty on many occasions, King George IV and Queen Victoria to name but two.
For an authentic country house retreat experience, guests can enjoy stunning event dinners in the grand ballroom, some relaxed gaming in the billiards rooms or, on the wider estate, beautiful walks, the golf club & course and the lakeside restaurant. There is also the option for guests to book some estate activities or spa treatments.
The traditional butler service on offer leaves guests free to enjoy the event and the surroundings, safe in the knowledge that every guest is being looked after and receiving the highest standard of services.
Sleeping up to 88 guests, each of the 30 luxurious en-suite guest rooms is decorated with period furniture befitting the reputation of the property. Each guest room bears the name of a notable figure who has either lived at Welwyn Country House or who has been closely associated with the house. Within a very short walk a separate stable block lodge offers and additional 16 en-suite bedrooms, if needed.
